Just a quick note wishing you all a happy new year. Hopefully 2010 will be better than 2009 for me.
It's been a struggle but we're still going. I feel close to a winning mentality now on Betfair, just need to sort out my staking.
Will try and dabble on darts tomorrow then FA Cup at weekend.
Cheers for now and Happy New Year.

Merry Christmas Everyone
Can’t beat a bit of Shaky this time of year eh?
Well just a quick note to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I have loaded Betfair back up ready for Boxing Day after a slip up in the darts, backing Taylor to lose a leg. He still has 2!!
Also given myself an early Xmas pressie of a 7 day trial of BetTrader Evolution. Will let you know what I think.
Anyway shopping to do plus loads more, so here’s to Boxing Day.
Cheers

Another day of profit
Despite backing three 1-0 scorelines today, I still managed make a small £7 profit thanks to a 3-0 Ajax win.
I started with a scratch trade in India v Bangladesh. Then a £20 loss when second goal didn't come in Druiburg game.
Greened up in Polish game when 1-0 up for tenner. Finally backed Over 1.5 in Ajax game @ 1.26.
Pleased to come out of tricky day unscathed and bank still in tack.
Cheers.

Over Joyed
You find this footygeek somewhat a different one from several weeks even months ago, and you know why? I've put money in the bank from Betfair!
I am now in the middle of a trading challenge which starts with a daily £50 bank, but more of this later.
How did we get here? Well I have to give credit to reading the excellent 70k blog for starters which pointed me to the over 1.5 goals market and also starting small and building up.
Saturday saw me turn my £24 bank into £90 thanks to several rolled up stakes on back Overs in Man U, Chelsea and Barcelona. Sounds obvious but I did have to sweat a bit but it paid.
Sunday didn't see as much action but a good selection from the Italian games saw the bank eventually rise to £140.
The bank size now was making me nervous and being back in the office and having to use the Iphone to trade, I struggled. A back of Under 3.5 goals in a midday Bulgarian Premiership game because a big distraction especially as early in the second half there has been 2 red cards and 1 goal. I managed a small green trying to scratch as it finished 1-2.
I waited until I got home and had a chance to watch a Romania game while Mrs FG went shopping, so I backed the Overs as normal and hoped. The game suspended midway through the first half and I hoped it was a goal. A quick visit to the forum showed a foggy pitch had stopped play.
I stayed in as long as I could but no goals saw me take a £90 red in a 0-1 game.
It got me thinking, I knew a loss would have come soon and I took this on the chin and started again with the £50 left. I then decided that if I set the stake to £50 each day then any profits could be banked and not so much pressure.
3 trades at around 1.3 would make around £50 winnings if successful.
I started it yesterday and managed to get £50 in the bank and left £88+ in Betfair. I have then played some weird and wonderful matches from South Asia Football Federations Cup to Bulgarian Cup then the FIFA Club World Cup Playoff.
I only managed £16 profit today as I tried to add some extra green to the £47 profit I generated by backing Overs in the Sevilla v Rangers game. An early goal should have been greened up but I let it roll and lost out as it finished 1-0.
The bank is now at £100, £50 is for the next days stake with a backup £50 in case I lose out.
Just looked at P/L and it's pleasing enough with a £96 profit for the last 3 months, the best I've been for a long while.
I'll try and give some daily progress if possible and hopefully report some more success in my favourite Betfair market.

All foreign to me
Hi folks. Thought I'd better drop you all a line before I get dropped off the Christmas lists or worse, the blog roll!
Since my last ramblings I have been mostly trading, trying to give myself a Xmas bonus. I have been working on BRAVO ratings as well but having moved them onto a new machine, been having teething problems. So instead I have found a new interest in Bulgarian footy among others.
When I first came up with the footygeek persona I did it because I loved football and was a computer programmer.
However a geek is also someone who likes the unusual and this also suits me. I never the one for choosing the obvious and I guess this why I struggle with betting/trading.
The last few weeks though may have seen a change. In following the throughly entertaining 70k blog (link on right) and trying my own £10 bank challenges I feel I am spotting better opportunities to make money rather than the clever bet.
I know I'm not taking value or using the all in option gonna make me a better trader. But for a quick funds boost it seems worth a play. It's not been plain sailing as last two weekends have seen the tenner disappear but this week has seen me build up to 40 quid then break even again. I'm back up to £15 profit today mainly playing Over 1.5 goals.
Still looking at niche markets to try and get an angle on and maybe Bulgaria is the place for me. For now will try and have some cheap fun with maybe a few more notes in the sky rocket.
Stay Lucky.

Not so Super Sunday
Well I'm glad I didn't follow my boxing hunch as would have lost more money. As it was started Sunday with 20 quid odd.
Didn't really have to go through in-play games as we had vistors for lunch and got up late.
Decided to lay Hull in first of Sky's two games in between running backwards and forwards to the shop.
Hull seemed to have well and so when I needed to wash the chicken for dinner, decided to take small green rather than risk it. Came back to find Stoke had scored minutes after I had done so. Doh!
That proved to be the pattern for the day, as I then dabbled with correct scores and laying over 1.5 goals as suspected there would be no more. In the end I added 30p odd to bank.
For the big game I decided to back 1-1 & 2-1 then cover Under 1.5 goals in case no goals. If goal went in hopefully I would green nicely on scores and maybe Unders depending on time of goal.
Unfortunately it came too late and greened up for just few pence profit again.
In an attempt to make some decent profit for the day, I backed Lloyd and Jamie to be in bottom 2 of X Factor.
Both survived to lose me a tenner and I am back down to 11 quid.

Saturday 7.11.09 - Trade 4
Backed Arsenal for £10 @ 1.4 from start and then traded out for £3.50 profit if Arsenal win.
Seems safe, and should break £20 bank which is almost 100% increased for day.
Should I lay Haye in the boxing? I don't really know anything about the sport for the 7 foot giant he's facing must be in for an easy win?
Back tomorrow.

Saturday 7.11.09 - 3pm update
Bank:£13.37
Straight back of Leciester @ 2.9 for £2, leaving me to play with just over a tenner for the afternoon.
Looked at backing Villa, Man City and Blackburn.
Missed the first goal in Villa, and both Man City and Blackburn are losing.
Have laid Spurs @ 1.26 to win a tenner @ 1-0 up, as Sunderland seem to be playing well. Gonna lay Burnley now, to try and get a higher price if goals come back.
HT- Green up on Man City-Burnley @ 1-2 for £4+ but Leicester losing 2-0. Bugger.
Need Sunderland equaliser and may lay Pompey.
Just backed Over 1.5 goals in Spurs game as well.
Sunderland just missed a penalty....typical.
Blackburn and Man City have also just equalised but I didn't lay Pompey in the end. Man City now 3-2 up.
FT - Well it would have been more if I had held my lay on Burnley until Man City were winning and if Sunderland had equalised, but Spurs second covered the lay on them and I managed to back the draw at the end for a couple of quid more in Man City game to finish about 6 quid up.
Profit: £3.95
Bank: £17.32
Right, time to lump on Arsenal?!?

Saturday 7.11.09 - Trade 2
Bank: £16.51
After waiting too long to get involved in Over 1.5 goals in Norwich and Swansea games, I am now putting a tenner on Overs in Hearts v Hibs which is 0-0 @ HT.
Will get out for a fiver loss if needed.
Took a £3.14 loss in the end, as Mrs FG returned from shopping and needed a hand unpacking.

Well typically I picked a 0-0 in Brazil. So now starting the day with 10 quid.

Over and Over Again
Another month gone, so time to post on the blog again and try and update on what I've been upto.
Been back off my hols for a couple of weeks now and been pushing on trying to get BRAVO ratings back on track and get some decent numbers to help with my betting/trading.
For the last month I have been ticking over with some safe and risk free trading from a twenty quid starting bank.
Picking games with goals but would be tight and likely to get a 1-1 or 2-2 scoreline. As such I had built up a £22 profit over 30 days by the end of October.
Then I stumbled across a new blog, which as moved my trading into a new direction. The blog is The 70k Betfair Trader.
He claimed to have made a small fortune in several days and then blew 70k of it.
However reckless this trading seems though, his tactic of backing Over 1.5 goals interested me.
Short odds with the chance of getting out by half time seems an excellent chance to grow the bank quicker.
I started last night with the Europey league games as well as the U17 World Cup games earlier in the afternoon.
After a bit of to'ing and fro'ing I ended the day almost doubling my bank with nearly £50 sitting in Betfair.
The all in policy used by the 70k guy is very risky and I try not to put the bank into a bet unless I have a exit policy.
However I found it a bit more tricky today as I tried to trade on the Iphone instead of the laptop.
A couple of big £20 and £10 losses have knocked the bank back down to £22.
I'm all in on some Brazilan game sitting @ 0-0 with half time, so hopefully a couple of early goals in the second half will setup up for a busy Saturday.
Finally City look good value for a win against West Brom tomorrow, que 0-0!!
Hopefully I will post my progress on this new challenge and maybe I can hit the £100 mark over the weekend and then £1k! We can but dream.

Working hard or hardly working?
Hello Geek fans! Hello. Hello? You still there. I know it's been a while and while I watch some data flow through the system, thought I'd post an update.
I have been on Twitter quite a lot recently and it does seem to suit my lifestyle at present for a quick update or comment.
So last time I made a decent post I was going on holiday, and guess what? I am again next week!
However my last holiday saw me discover a new selection method for trading and possibly betting using the Racing and Football Outlook as a guide. This system is now being trialed for small stakes and is looking good even if still a work in progress.
The idea came about after reading some excellent articles on the BetSeventyTwo.com site and although my membership how now lapsed I will look to renew when cash is available.
Other inspirations have come from BettorLogic and Betting4Profits as well as new boys the Nugget Crew plus some old favs in Brian Coplin and Talkbet.
Finally BRAVO ratings are being recoded and looking good especially as I have Leicester top of the Championship!
Bit more tweaking me thinks.
Ok off to bed soon, so Stay Lucky.

Time for a break
I'm to sunny Cornwall again tomorrow for 2 weeks, so no further updates for a while.
Time is always too short for me, so I'll have another rethink about blogging.
Also will look at some new trading ideas off the excellent new Bet72 membership site. Full review when I get a mo.
Right off for some time with the wife and kids, ice cream, Carling Premiership and maybe the odd footy match.
Cheers

After a fairly useful and productive day on the betting front on Tuesday, things have gone downhill since.
I rediscovered the bettorlogic site thanks to Twitter and discover shed loads of useful stats and ideas for selecting bets.
This plus a personal invite to check out the new BetSeventyTwo site gave me a lift towards the new season.
I've a quick look at the site and it looks impressive. Full review hopefully over the weekend.
Wednesday started bad and got worse. We'd been invited out to dinner so missed Celtic match and also work began to pile up.
Vastly running out of time to study any footy stats, Thursday became worse.
I then got home to find out that my eldest son might have swine flu.
He seems ok now, so hopefully will feel better for our hoiiday next weekend.
No rest or time on the laptop yesterday but hopefully back on track today. Free £100 bet available at Bet365 plus just signed up for free trial in August on football-bets.co.uk.
Got some GSI selections for tonight and will post over at other blog.
Ante post selections coming soon hopefully. Cheers.

Despite only 4 hours sleep again, feel a bit more chiper today.
Gave myself a kick up the ass and ploughed on with some more work on the ratings.
RFO out today and previewing Football League tips this week. Few interesting punts to be had. Leeds for Div 1 looks solid bet.
Few selections looked at for Friday's GSI tip which will post up by Thursday.
Blogging on Iphone giving me hand cramps, so that's enough for now.

August 3rd 2009
Come Friday evening the English footy season will be underway once again and the bets will on again.
I've been trying to get a rating system in place to point the way but as usual, time has been me.
The usual to'ing and fro'ing between system ideas has left me dazed and confused.
However the idea that has excited me the most is my GSI system.
I say system, there's no fancy calculations or solid info to point out winners but I'm hopeful in my ability to spot goal scorers.
I've created a seperate blog for the tips and here I will muse on daily betting thoughts.
I scraped some cash together and planning some anti posts to be revealed soon.
Some great coverage on Sir Bobby Robson passing away over the weekend and many fitting tributes. RIP Bobby.
